Leonard Bernstein was born in 1918 in Massachusetts. Music appeared in his life at an early age. When the future composer was 10 years old, he began to play piano on his own at home. Then Bernstein began studying music theory and taking piano lessons. Bernstein changed many piano teachers during his childhood and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An interesting fact from his childhood is that young Bernstein invited all the neighborhood children to the country house in summer and together they staged various plays, such as Carmen or The Pirates of Penzance. Even though Bernstein had an innate talent, his father categorically opposed the idea of playing piano and composing music. He tried to prevent the son from studying music and didn\u2019t pay for the lessons. However, neither his father\u2019s threats nor his protests stopped Bernstein on the path of his artistic development. The young boy began teaching neighborhood children. Later, Bernstein’s father supported his desire to pursue music. At the age of 14, Bernstein gave his first public performance, where he played Brahms\u2019s Rhapsody on the piano.
