The same restaurant group that built one of Midtown’s most theatrical French brasseries also keeps this whisper-quiet counterpoint in the West Village: a genuinely petite corner bistro where the steak au poivre gets the attention a small room allows. Petite Boucherie is what happens when a big kitchen’s discipline is squeezed into a neighborhood address.

The Concept

Part of Emil Stefkov’s The Group NYC — the family behind La Grande Boucherie and Olio e Più — the bistro has held its corner since the late 2010s. Where its Midtown sibling stages Belle Époque spectacle, Petite Boucherie plays the neighborhood key: a tighter French menu, the group’s shared wine collection, and a room scaled for conversation rather than ceremony. No raw-bar towers, no wagyu program — just the canon, done carefully.

What to Order

The steak au poivre is the calling card: prime flat iron under a green-peppercorn sauce with silky pommes purée. Around it orbit escargots in garlic-parsley butter, onion soup gratinée, pâté de campagne, steak tartare and crispy baby artichokes; larger appetites land on boeuf bourguignon, poulet aux champignons or the Boucherie burger with aged Gruyère. Charcuterie and French cheeses cover the grazing hours, weekend brunch runs from eggs Benedict to steak aux oeufs, and the bar mixes the group’s signature absinthe cocktails. Finish with crème brûlée or the Basque cheesecake.

The Space

A classic bistro miniature: red leather seating, brick walls, ornate mirrors, a vintage-style wooden bar with a few coveted stools and warm, low light. French windows swing open in fine weather, dissolving the line between the tables and one of the West Village’s prettiest, most-photographed corners; the sidewalk seats are the neighborhood’s quiet luxury.
